SAINTS COSMAS and DAMIAN
Martyrs
(† c. 283)

Sts. Cosmas and Damian were brothers and physicians. They were born in Arabia and studied medicine in Syria. Fully and eternally alive in Christ, they practiced their trade pro bono.

When the persecution of Diocletian broke out, Sts. Cosmas and Damian were arrested for their faith. Lysias, the governor of Cilicia, saw them arrested, then tortured and executed.

The brothers were thrown together, bound hand and foot, into the deep sea. They had along ago died to themselves for Jesus Christ. Their absolute triumph and heroic courage are the stuff of true manhood and holy legend.
